After twenty years of public service work, I decided it was time to get back to my original love: writing. Nancy Drew was my passion as a young girl. As an adult, I moved to Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christies. I loved reading mysteries and historical fiction. The obvious result was writing historical cozies.
Cozy mysteries are fun to read, to watch on television or in a movie theater and an incredible joy to write. I like the combination of relatable characters, interesting settings and solving a puzzle.
My first series was BERKSHIRES COZY MYSTERIES with nine books. I spent my summers in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, so I created a fictional town of West Adams in the 1930s and had a young nurse Aggie as the main character. Newcomer to a small town, quirky characters, a weekly tea party gossip group and of course a murder. In one book, Aggie goes to Boston to help her cousin with a debutante ball and the idea for the next series took root.
The second series is MASSACHUSETTS COZY MYSTERIES with nine books to date. I’ve been to Boston many times and now spend at least a week there every summer. The main character is Aggie’s cousin, Amanda (introduced above), an upper-class Bostonian who stumbles onto a murder and collaborates with a handsome Irish detective to solve it. Because Boston has a fascinating history, traditions, and cultures, I’ve located each book in a different neighborhood. I also like to weave topical events into the storyline of the tumultuous 1930s.
